Extracurricular Programs

  1. Math Pentathlon is an excellent way to challenge our students to develop their God-given gifts and talents - and is fun as well. Pentathlon is an after school enrichment program for 1st through 7th graders at Hudsonville Christian School that meet on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:00 P.M. in the Oak St. building. This is an entirely volunteer, parent-run program.

Logic, computation, and spatial reasoning are developed in a highly motivational format designed for students within a broad rage of ability levels. Game partners discuss aloud various options and possibilities in formulating strategies based on expected counter moves from the other players. In this way the games challenge students to mature in their ability to think strategically and resolve problems that are continually undergoing change. The games are easy to learn and challenging to master; therefore students of all abilities can participate.

Approximately 90 students participate in the after school games at Hudsonville Christian School throughout this year. The season ends with a tri-state tournament in Elkhart, Indiana which involves 30 to 40 students from different schools. Individual students who are competitively inclined have the option of attending.

The Math Pentathlon Team from Hudsonville Christian School was awarded first place in the Michiana Regional Math Pentathlon Tournament 6 times in the last 10 years.

  2. Girls on the Run is a fitness/learning program for girls in 4th and 5th grade that combines training for a 5k run with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting warm-ups and workouts. At Hudsonville Christian we are interested in educating the whole child, and we think a program such as this can help to prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living based on Whose They Are. Girls on the Run is not just an athletic program. Each session has a lesson that focuses on values such as:

These lessons are taught through a routine of group activities, stretching, warm-up activities, running, and a healthy snack.
