Elementary Technology

Our students are growing up in a world that is orientated toward technology and information processing. Computers have become integrated into many facets of our professional and personal lives.

In today's technologically advancing world,an understanding of how the computer can be used to facilitate learning in our everyday lives, in our homes, schools, and businesses is essential for both the teacher and the student. Our goal is to provide both teacher and student with the opportunity to use the computer and related technologies necessary to function in today's world and to fulfill the place God has for them in His Kingdom.

  1. To achieve a basic understanding of the operation and care of the computer, and its proper use from a Christian perspective.
  2. To develop keyboarding skills using proper fingering and touch typing techniques.
  3. To use the computer to facilitate learning in the regular classroom, using the computer both as a tutor and as a tool.
  4. To understand the role of computers in our lives and in society.
  5. To learn to use the computer to enhance problem solving skills.
  6. To use the computer as a tutor for both enrichment and remediation.

Email communication is welcomed by the elementary teachers. Each teacher at Hudsonville Christian has a computer on his/her desk or in the classroom. Paper memos were disbanded several years ago in favor of email communication within the building, so teachers check their email on a regular basis during each school day. If you wish to contact a paraprofessional by email, send the message to a full time teacher of that department / grade.

Most classrooms Grade 1 -5 have at least one computer station with online capability. The computer lab at the elementary school is equipped with 28 stations of Apple Macintosh computers. The hardware is updated on a 3 year rotation. Software is updated as necessary. The curriculum for technology begins at 3rd grade level.

The excellent technology facilities at Hudsonville Christian are supported in part by the general operating budget, but most of the financing comes from the annual Hike and Bike event held in April. This pledge-based, family fundraising event each April is soundly supported by the school community, generating thousands of dollars to keep Hudsonville Christian technologically current.
