What We Stand For
Hudsonville Christian School
STATEMENT OF BELIEF
- Standards and Worldview
- Hudsonville Christian School is founded on the Word of God.
- Curriculum and instruction at HCS is based on God's Word and on the belief that the Bible is clearly interpreted in the three doctrinal standards of the Reformed faith: The Heidelberg Catechism, The Canons of Dort, The Belgic Confession, which are summarized in the Contemporary Testimony, Our World Belongs to God (DOC 201k).
- Hudsonville Christian School promotes a worldview that all spheres of life and learning are under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
- We believe that God created all things good, that all things have fallen from original goodness, and that Christ, who has redeemed all things, will restore them when His Kingdom fully comes. God calls us to aid the Spirit's work of restoration by seeking to make all things better.
- Hudsonville Christian students learn to make sense of life from a biblical perspective through the Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration cycle, i. e.,
- What is God's original creation intent for this area of life?
- How has sin impacted this area of life?
- How will Christ redeem this area of life?
- How can I aid the Spirit in bringing hope and healing to this area of life?
- The Purpose of Christian Education
- Christian education is a cooperative effort of three distinct spheres of influence in a child's life: Home, Church, and School.
- The Christian day school is an institution established by parents to assist them in the God-given task of training their children to live for the Lord.
- Curriculum
- The curriculum at Hudsonville Christian School is Bible based and standards focused. It reflects a Reformed worldview and meets state standards.
- The teaching of Christian principles is not a separate entity, but integrated into the total education program.
- The curriculum must be balanced, not over-specializing in any one area to the neglect of others. The curriculum helps our children become sensitive to the wonderful unity, diversity, coherence, and plan in God's creation.
- Sensitive topics encountered in the curriculum, the media, or interactions in society are dealt with honestly and discreetly by teachers who model a Christian response to contemporary issues.
- The Christian School Community
- Hudsonville Christian School supports the values taught in the home and church.
- Our students are image bearers of their Maker, and Hudsonville Christian School celebrates the diversity and honors the uniqueness of each one.
- Each student at Hudsonville Christian School has a place in God's Kingdom, and God has a wonderful plan for each life.
- Specific learning goals and curricula are selected to best prepare each child for life as a forgiven, obedient, fruitful, and responsible Christian.
- Christian education addresses the whole child, with physical, spiritual, and emotional dimensions and God-given gifts to be developed in these domains.
- Our parents believe that their children are members of God's covenant family according to His promise; they have chosen Christian education as a way of fulfilling their promise to do all in their power to nurture their children in the Lord.
- Our teachers guide each child to work out a Christian worldview and integrate their faith with teaching and learning.
- Every staff member at Hudsonville Christian School is a professing Christian whose commitment to serving Jesus Christ is demonstrated in his or her lifestyle: a personal walk with the Savior, reliance on the power of prayer, and a life of loving service.
- Each teacher is supported by the administration and board of trustees in being a life-long learner, maintaining professional competence, updating teaching skills, and keeping abreast of current trends by reading, participating in school inservice and other professional opportunities, and completing graduate work required for state certification.
- Because the entire community of God's people cares for its children and its future, support for quality Christian education is a responsibility maintained by the entire Christian community.
